How does +Repelle protect skin from hair dye chemicals and irritation?
Here’s some real basic hair dye chemistry. In life, “opposites” attract. In hair color, “opposites” attract too … while “likes” repel!
+Repelle incorporates a unique cationic ingredient, Pretectin-22™, that makes +Repelle positively-charged. As a result:
- +Repelle is attracted to the negative sites in skin to form a great physical barrier to the color, and
- +Repelle actually “repels” hair color, which is generally positively-charged too.
Plus, the +Repelle wand is a solid material, so it has six times (6x) more active barrier ingredients than typical salon barrier lotions (which are mostly water).
What is the primary use of +Repelle?
+Repelle is intended as a protective barrier to hair color dyes when used before hair color. It is applied around the hairline, ears, eyebrows, sideburns, mustache/beard, nape of neck… wherever you get hair color stains or irritation.

Can +Repelle be used as a hair color remover?
While +Repelle performs best used before hair color, if you forget to use it beforehand, some people have found it can also function as a color remover if applied after the color process. In this case, it solubilizes the dye and sweeps it away.

What Happens if +Repelle gets on the hair?
+Repelle can block hair color dyes, so we recommend trying to avoid getting it on the hair; that’s why we made it a stick, to make +Repelle easy to apply precisely! But if you do have an accidental slip onto the hair, it often leaves such a thin coat that it may not block the color. Do not try to wipe it off hair, as you’re likely to spread it further up the hair shaft.

How do you get +Repelle off your Skin?
+Repelle wipes or washes off easily at the same time as washing off hair color.

What other things can +Repelle be used for?
+Repelle can also be used:
- To protect cuticles and skin around the nails from “slips” with nail polish; wherever you apply +Repelle, the nail polish won’t set or stick on the skin, you can rub it right off!
- To moisturize dry or cracked skin on hands, elbows, knees or heels
- To soften calluses or anywhere else intense moisturizing is needed
Is +Repelle Safe for Skin?
The ingredients in +Repelle have widespread cosmetic use and are not known to cause significant allergy problems. Often in personal care products, a fragrance can be a culprit in allergic reactions. The +Repelle Wand is FRAGRENCE-FREE!

Why Does +Repelle Have Petrolatum and Mineral Oil?
Petrolatum and mineral oil have exceptional barrier properties. They have an exceptionally low risk of causing skin irritation, making them ideal for color barrier protection. Moreover, petrolatum and mineral oil are much gentler on the skin and safer for eye exposure than the alcohol-based color removers used in wipes or in some salon products, or high surfactant products which also exist.
